summer
my summer has so far been rather eventful. granted, i have no job or responsibilities for school, so i haven't been extremely busy. however, i have done a lot thus far.

correction, i did have a 1 week class at the very begginning of the summer, but that has been over for about a month and a half. i should also mention the writing comptetency exam which is long over with as well.

other than that, i went to california for a week to see my friends that i met in japan, coral and danielle. it was a blast. chico, california is probably the most fantastic college town i have ever visited. we had a great time, but then one night danielle got super drunk and it was a whole bunch of drama that need not be fully described, but the point is that i left a week earlier than i had originally planned. i then visited my best friend diana in denver for five days. i went to the zoo, the museum, and the coor's brewery during my time there, and had a grand time.

after that vacation, i spent another week in muncie; i packed/moved stuff into storage, i hung out with friends, and i worked out a lot. it was mostly just swimming and biking.

for about the first week of june, i hung out in iowa. i visited a few friends in des moines, on the saturday of june 3, then i made my way up to humboldt and chilled with the family from sunday until friday. we had some good times. i spent some quality time with all of the nieces. claire and i went swimming at htown's bran new swimming pool, which is fantastic fyi. i really didn't hang out with many high school friends, which i sort of regret. i'm not going to be home for a really long time, and while i'm no longer attached to high school, i do like to see them once in a while. i saw all of the subway girls except one, but other than that, i saw absolutely no one from my class, except one bitchy girl working at the pool. either way, humboldt was a really great time, and i actually enjoyed my family rather much. unfortunately i was only able to see my sister amy once during the whole ordeal. it was the last time i'll see her before she has a baby too. in fact, in august i will be the only person in my family who does not have a child.

on friday, i went to cedar falls and hung out with the uni kids...brendon, diana, and l.t.d. diana was home from denver for the week as well, otherwise i honestly probably wouldn't have seen any of them. it was great to see them all. brendon and i didn't have any drama, except for one little tiff when he was trying to make me angry. l.t.d. was super fun. all in all, we had a good time, and i was really drunk.

saturday was dubuque. i heart dubuque. it's my favorite city in the world. i love the kids there. the dubuque kids. everyone was home for lance and laura's wedding. it was a fantastic experience. free beer, free food, free everything. the drunk bus picked us all up after the reception and hauled us downtown to the bars. we went home rather early, because we were all dying for mcdonald's, and we were super tired as well. in the morning, i made my merry way back to indiana. since then, i have still been moving things periodically, and i have been running errands here and there. i have also worked out a lot this week. go me!

now i'm getting the last of my items moved out of the house. i'm so excited to not live here anymore. i'm also really excited to work at camp this summer. it should be an amazing experience. eastern pennsylvania should be pretty special.

in other news, jason and i got a cat. it's actually his cat technically, but i'm falling for her a little. she's cute, but she's super noisy at night...argh. in the morning she cuddles with me though :)

tonight i'll be going to indy to hang out with amber jones. love her. i'm so excited.

so that's my summer. i'm really ready to leave muncie again. although, i'm really really really excited for grad school. at times, i regret the fact that i'll be in muncie for another year, but i'm also really excited. as everyone knows, i hate this city, but i'm just not ready to say goodbye to it forever, and what's another year? i'll meet tons of cool new people in my grad program and working at the multicultural center. i'll be the only ball state alumnus in the program, which may very well have its perks.

life overall is good for john right now :)

i'm watching family feud...one of the newer version. the question was "name a gas found in the air we breath". 9 people surveyed said carbon monoxide. that's just stupid.

yikes
i paid what may have been my last tuition payment ever today. granted, i may be paying student loans for some time after it's all said and done, but at least i can say ball state no longer has any claim to my soul.

i probably love travelling more than most anyone else i know, so why is it so hard for me?

i woke up this morning at about 5:30 in muncie. i drove down to the indy airport, and jason fell asleep on the way. i got on my plane to denver at about 10:14.

i got to see diana in denver. twas glorious. i also made her take some shit because my carry on backpack was getting just to heavy. i had to go back through security, saying bye to diana. as soon as i got into my terminal, i realized my connecting fligh to san francisco was cancelled. not delayed, not boaring later, not anything else, just plain cancelled. well, shit.

so i sat down and paid for the internet so i can have it the rest of the day i'm here. i'm just chilling until i get another flight into san francisco, only to get on another flight to chico. we'll have to just wait and see what happens. damn bastards.

ponder
here i sit...aside from a bullshit credit next week, these are my last few hours as an undergraduate student. the family will be here within the next few hours. dad is flying in from florida, sister and the nieces are probably somewhere around peoria, and mom, sister, and brother-in-law are probably just getting out of iowa. my comm 210 test at 12:00 is my last final. yes, i'm in comm 210.

this should all be a good time, but i'm just not sure if i'm able to accept the fact that it's here. i mean, i'm super glad, but damn, is this all for real?

*11 days until california.

my summer

so i'm going to be in a lot of places this summer. i'm soooooo excited. i also get to see most of california. i'll be flying into chico, driving to orange county, then flying back to indianapolis. it should be a great time, considering i have almost two weeks to do it. good times

here's how much of california i get to see. i've only been to sacramento and to the airport in san francisco, so this is pretty cool for me. if i'm lucky we'll be going to tijuana for an afternoon too. i got my ticket today, so this is for sure :)

the remainder of my summer includes a trip to iowa at some point, followed by a trip to athens, georgia to see a few of my friends from thailand. from georgia, i'll drive up to my camp job in pennsylvania. from pennsylvania i'll hopefully visit boston, new york, providence, newark, baltimore, and washington dc. i should be in a total of eleven states i've never been in, and a bunch that i haven't spent much time in at all. i'm not going to thailand or anywhere extravagent, but this should really be exciting.

good times
so today is going very well.

i woke up this morning without a headache...yay!

lee's inn fucked up reservations for my family to stay in muncie for my graduation, and they had to stay at the motel 6 in anderson. i went to visit the motel 6 in anderson, and it was unacceptable. i went into lee's inn, bitched nicely, and got my rooms for friday night, guaranteed.

i am still excited about my c in kinesiology. i got to drop it for the summer, because i was registered for it just in case.

i got a storage unit for the summer for $25/month. thanks ashley and trent.

i'm a little tired, but not too bad.

i have a religious studies picnic at 4:30. it should be pretty glorious.

i got $67 back for books, which doesn't seem like a lot but it's a lot more than i was expecting.

i signed up for the writing competency exam.

everything is falling into place, and my life is pretty much back in order.

oh, and i need to remember to take back fox and the hound to family video

graduation
ok...so graduation should be happening, but there are a number of things that are up in the air right now.

at the beginning of last week, i had all of these to complete, some are now completed. although, there is still a variety of events that could come between me and my diploma.

complete my online math class that i put off all semester
take the writing competency exam
complete all the coursework along with reflection essay for religious studies internship
complete all the coursework for aquatics practicum

complete religious studies short writing assignment
complete religious studies conference paper
give religious studies conference presentation
complete religious studies 381 final paper
give press conference for interviewing class
finish problem sets for kinesiology
finish final lab report for kinesiology
take final test for kinesiology

pass kinesiology, and with a c or better if my advisor figures out the grade i need in the course? don't know final grade yet
take comm 210 final
take interviewing final test
take week-long aquatics class for the 1 last major elective credit i need, and pass

thank god i have not had to worry about moving or anything like that yet. the only other issue facing my life is finances. i'm pretty poor right now. other than that, i'm doing ok on everything.

it's all looking good right now. i'm going to do my best to finish everything i need to right now, but i don't think what i do now can determine whether or not i graduate. it seems as if my graduation is in the hands of powers that are beyond those of my own. i'll either finish or i won't, and it's not up to me anymore.

masque
i had my first experience at masque last night. twas a good time indeed. twas also kyleen's first gay bar experience. she really proved her worth last night. it was also a first for my new friend emily. my friend johnny from indianapolis also came up to muncie and went with us. all of the youngsters seemed to have a good time.

i pretty much drank the most of everyone, and jason drank for a while. i'm really glad he came and met my friends, although he may have gotten frustrated with my drunken banters. it was a good, well-rounded group of kids. although, jason and i were the only individuals of legal drinking age, which made me feel old.

one of the best parts of the night was when i bumped into a fabulous black woman, and i said, "you're fantastic!"

her response: "i better be!"

i'm not gonna' lie...
these next two weeks are probably going to be the worst of my life. i have plenty of work that i'll probably never be able to finish. i'm just going to have to give up on sleep for a while.

let's just cross our fingers and hope that graduation actually happens.
